Default adding washers as spacers on steps?

I bought a set of steps and the bracket on the front is not right and keeps the front of the step too far under the truck. The company wants me to move the back in to make it even, and this would really cut down on the usability of the step. My question is: can I just add extra flat washers between the step and the lock washer to get it more even and out from under the truck? Thanks.

Sure...as long as the bolt is long enough and it doesn't put too much stress on the step (leverage on the step becomes greater the further it is from the fulcrum).

Should work. if the washers not thick enough, cut a chunk of plate and drill a hole in it. that would also work!
