+1 for doing it yourself...
I put in a RER radio, and painted my woodgrain one with nickel metallic spray by Rustolum...highly recommend the "Universal" paint line by them for plastic, stuff was really nice to work with.

 

Paint it. I had a woodgrain. It was pretty easy and cheap. Just to a light wet sanding with 600 grit, apply a couple coats of plastic primer, 3-4 coats of what ever color you want, 3-4 coats of clear coat, it's that easy.
