Default Air noise when braking

Hi there. Just found this forum, so this is my first post.
I have a 2006 Dakota R/T. When I brake, I get a noise that sounds like a short burst of air coming from under my dash. It sounds like a compressor releasing a bit of air and lasts about 1 second. Although it is not very loud, I replaced the stock intake with the K&N package and the noise got louder. Of course when I took it to the dealership, it wouldn't make the noise. They checked the brakes and said everything is tight. Any help you could give me is appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum!

Does this sound like a vacuum leak that could be coming from under the hood?

If your intake made it louder, here are my thoughts; When I have my A/C on, every time I get off the gas, I hear a small "discharge" of air, and it sounds like it comes from the passanger side with the intake. When the air is off, I never hear it. It may be the same for you, which is possibly why it didnt do it at the dealer; the a/c may have been off. If its not that, Im thinking a vacuum leak somewhere.

Hi, thanks for the welcome.
I don't use the A/C at all, but I will monitor when I have the heat on and see if that makes a difference. It's something I never thought of.
As for a vaccum leak, it always lasts the same amount of time and never varies. Is that consistant with a vaccum leak?

Thanks again.

Does it only last for a second or two when you press the brake?

You could try while at a dead stop with the engine running, press the brake pedal multiple times as fast as you can. If your engine idle raises, its a sign that you may have a vacuum leak.

rengnath, I tried what you said, and engine idle remains unchanged.

"it sounds like a small blow off valve in a turbo set up. right?
Exactly ericemery. I'm glad this is normal. I knew it wasn't affecting braking, but I was a little worried about what it was.

Thanks to all for the help. A very nice forum you have here.
