Airbag Light
Hey all, I own a 2005 Dodge Dakota SLT 4.7L with 58k miles on it. The truck has had no problems at all until this point and it has been pretty good to me. I wanted to come to you guys with this because you all probably know a great deal about the trucks more than I do, and the dealer wants to charge $150 to diagnose this problem.
Today I went to start my truck, and it stalled on me the first time right after it turned over. It then took me 3 more times to get it to start, and it felt pretty rough. When I started driving, the truck was driving perfectly normal but I noticed the airbag light had came on, which has never happened before. I read in the manual that if the guages don't work then the airbag module could be bad, but the gauges work fine. When I drove the truck this morning, the light was not on and it started as normal.
Has this ever happened to any of you guys, and do you know what It could be? Thank you!

First thing to do before anything else: Disconnect the battery for about an hour. Clean the contacts real good and make sure the clamps are tight. I have random airbag lights all the time (along with others)....I go to check the codes and there are none there....like any computer controlled vehicle, things happen from time to time that defy explanation...disconnecting the battery gives the computer a chance to reset itself...sort of like a ctrl-alt-delete.....lol
i highly doubt the module is bad its rare for a module to just fail for no reason. it seems weird that the airbag light would come on after your truck stalled. It sounds like it could be an electicle problem
My truck will get an airbag light about every 5k miles or so. The code reads as the instrument panel losing connection or that there was a connection loss with my abs module. I can't figure it out .... I just clear it and drive it. Its probably just a loose connector somewhere. It should clear itself within a few start ups or if you cycle the key on and off for a few cycles.
Yeah that's what I thought, Airbags dont usually go bad this early out of the blue. I'll try disconnecting the battery and hopefully all is well again. Thank you for the replies!
Airbag light came on for me too, when I was installing my stereo system. I had to remove the center console, which was easy, but I had to disconnect the cig lighter wire harness. Apparently, it is connected to the air bag system. So, my light has been on for a while. The service guy at the dealership said the same thing that JKeaton did. Only, he said to disconnect it for only 10 min, to let the capacitor drain. After reconnecting, not only did the light still come on, but for some reason my keyless entry stopped working. I thought that I maybe shorted a fuse when I reconnected it, trouble shot it for a bit and had a thought, maybe the problem is with my key, so I went inside and grabbed my spare, and sure enough, the spare key works fine to lock and unlock it. Wierd. I will try again JKeaton and leave the battery disconnected for over an hour like you said and let you know what happens.
Well, I just got done disconnecting my battery. Left it for just over an hour and hooked it back up. No change. I can only imagine that I possibly didn't connect the harness to the cig lighter in the center console correctly or something. I don't think that's it cuz it still works to charge my cell phone. IDK, if all else fails I'll take it to the dealership and see. UGH!
