that would probably be the intermediate shaft that needs to be lubed, mine was doing the same thing and a power steering fluid flush and lubing up all the joints on the shaft fixed it.

how do you not know how to lube your shaft? HEYOOOO......

seriously theres a bunch of joints on it and i lubed up all the joints and got a power steering flush. you need to use a type of lube that resists water though so do not used wd-40, i used white lithium grease.

just follow the shaft from the firewall and you will see a few u-joints on it.

I posted up a thread earlier in the week about this problem.
checked upper/lower ball joints ,tie rod ends ,pump, took it to my mech and found out it was the "intermediate steering shaft", he told me to check with a dealer to see if there was any recalls and apparently there wasn't, dealer price on a new one was $ 350.00 {ouch}, went to Lordco and they could get me one for about $ 150.00.
Went home, dug out the "kroll" penetrating/ lube, sprayed the snot out of it { no grease fittings to lube it } did that a couple times over the next couple days, now it's as if nothing was ever wrong with my steering.

every time I change my oil, i spray the u-joints with pb blaster. fyi, it's not that hard to change out according to Bobby (rengnath).
