Temp warning light
Folks;
I am hoping I just need to add more coolant fluid..... Hoping you guys that know more can fill me in. When driving, and only (for now) when hammering on the gas from a few red lights, the RED coolant light comes on. When I stop hammering it, and drive normal, it goes off. However, the actual temperature gauge NEVER runs hotter than normal. Needle doesn't move from its normal running temperature.
Popped the hood, the coolant level is between the upper reservoir and the lower one. Its about 4-6 inches from the max fill level. It doesn't seem low to me, but, I know jack about this stuff.
Sound like I need more fluid, or do you think it could be something else?

I think it would be best to go to Auto zone and get the actual code that is throwing. At WOT I guess its possible that the fluid is either being forced past the sensor if you are low, or the engine is sucking up more. The Idiot light for engine coolant covers more than just simply overheating.
That is what I was worried about, something bigger. Can I get the code from the odometer? I am in Canada, we don't have Auto Zone, and the stealerships here don't do anything for free. Truck seems to run fine, I notice no power loss, shifting issues, idle changes, driving changes etc. It only happens (so far) when hammering on it. Which, I won't do until I isolate it. I am just hoping its a two time thing that doesn't happen again, which mysteriously seems to happen a lot.
You are going to need a OBD2 code reader, thats why Eimer said to go to Autozone. They will read your codes for free. If you have a similar Automotive store that will read your codes for free, go there. Or just buy a code reader and see what she is spitting out on the screen... good luck

I certainly just been a two time thing. I have had my trans temp light come on twice, about 2 month ago. Code was for over temp. Checked the temp using my programmer, and fluid level and nothing was wrong. Cleared the code and has never came back.
Almost any auto parts store will get your code for free. Dealerships unlikely. I know some trucks can get the code off the odometer. Mine does not, so I can not help you with the procedure.
