Dealer says I need new PCM...
Hey ya'll. Many of you are aware of my truck woes these past few weeks. The dealer is saying I need a new PCM as something is shorting internally.
They also say the part is on back-order (wtg dodge), but can be received in 10 business days.
My question: Can I get a PCM elsewhere? Is this doable myself? The tech said its like $600 for the part and a 1/2 hour of labor.
I don't think that's too bad, but IDK.
Thoughts?

for the love of god dont get it from the dealer, they wanted over 1k dollars for a new pcm!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i told them to sit and spin and walked out. bought one on ebay for 200$ and had it overnighted for 50$. works just as good as a dealer part.
Dodge ecm/pcm are not interchangeable as they are programed with your vin and mileage.
Auto comp out of Houston Texas remanufactures them for a good price.
1800-217-4072, Talk to Greg, Have the part number off of your pcm ready along with your vin and current mileage if you decide to purchase.

Thanks for the responses guys.
I too have learned that the PCM needs to be VIN and mileage specified. I have found some places who re-manufacture these PCM's ranging from $150-$300 depending on place. The dealer wants $600 for it.
My real concern is I already paid another shop $600 to buy and replace a solenoid pack that didn't seem to fix the issue. The shop said they would take the new part out and put the old part back in and give me a refund, but I'm not sure if that would be negative progress once I put in the PCM.
I read somewhere that a PCM can be burned because of a bad solenoid pack or similar. My fear is if I were to put in the "bad" (old/stock) solenoid pack, and it was to burn the new PCM I just bought.
Anybody have thoughts on this?
Thanks!

On my 98 they threw solonoid packs, PCM, pressure regulators, etc at it over a half a year. Problem ended up being that my K&N wore through my wiring harness, grounding. PCM was actually fine, but the ABS computer was toast. $75 on ebay.
