Add a boat, ATV, or similar to that and the truck is at 3/4+ until the clutch fan kicks in. That does cool it...but it cannot be ideal. I think I have a jacked up radiator...but not sure.
This is like my truck as well. I had an efan on and had to go back to my clutch fan. This year I upgraded to the HHR efan with the same results. Then I put both efans on, the HHR pulling and the other one if front of the rad pushing. This helped out but still heated up when towing my 5000lb trailer. Now I have the efan on the front and my clutch fan on with no problems, but would love to run with no clutch fan. Have inquired about a 2 row rad with no luck. I wonder if it could be a water pump problem? What was that water pump Blown was running in his truck? I think he had like three upgrades to his cooling system and was running at like 165 degrees. I'm lucky if I can maintain a constant 190.

Well, coolant system seems to be all good, but i'll probably flush it just to be on the safe side I guess. The hhr fan seems to be a popular mod, but I don't know if it's any cheaper/better than an aftermarket one from summitracing really. I'd love to use the fan from my mustang, but since it's the stock one, it's probably too much draw as suggested above. I was just hoping to use stuff i already had on hand so i could put a little money in my 66 mustang ....

I do have a CAI, and I am currently testing a shroud design for it, which seems to improve things a good deal actually. Still plan on doing a efan, but really, if my problem is highway towing temps mainly, I should probably just get an aftermarket one it seems.

I'll hopefully order this out and get started right away.

I'd be inclined to think there is an issue somewhere. I just pulled a pretty big Kubota & rough cutter on a big, dual axle trailer last week in 105* heat 28 miles each way to cut grass at my little piece of property in south Georgia and the needle never got anywhere near the half way mark with my 3300 cfm fan...

You probably need a good flush. You could add some purple ice if your still worried.

Ps. Check the lower hose, it may be collapsing under load.
