Default 2009 Dakota replace multifunction switch

Good morning!

So I've got a bad multifunction switch which I'm replacing. The battery is disconnected and the steering wheel shroud came off easily enough, but could someone tell me the proper sequence to remove the steering wheel? I want to make sure I don't have any surprises with the air bag during disassembly or assembly.

Thanks & have a great day!

Im not sure but you shouldn't have to remove the wheel. The switches usually bolt on one side. It might have torx or tamper resistant torx screws.

If I remember, the battery should be disconnected for 20 min or so before disconnecting the airbag....do yourself a favor and download the service manual from here:

Thanks to everyone who responded. The steering wheel & airbag removal seems to be similar to the Intrepid but from what I can see the multifunction switch is a different design. WIll tackle this one night this week and let you know the results.

On the 2009 the design of the switch is connect to the wheel behind the airbags. I wish this wasn't the case.
