Smile 2005 Dakota Suspension Help

Guys,

I recently sent my '88 F-150 to its new home in a salvage yard and replaced it with a 2005 Dakota Quad Cab 4x2 with a 4.7L engine. I love the truck but the suspension is absolute crap and failing. I get strong vibrations at high speeds, when I hit larger bumps the front end bobs up and down a few times, etc. It's typical "bad struts". I've gone to several tire shops and local mechanics and they're all quoting me about $900 to replace the struts and shocks, do an alignment, and all that fun stuff.

$900 is a buttload of cash and, in my opinion, too much for "meets OEM standards". So, I'm looking at aftermarket parts and I'm wondering if ya'll could give me some pointers on what works best on these trucks. I'm not opposed to spending more than $900 as long as I get something that's worth the money.

Thanks!

Scott

for struts & shocks, we have ranchoos & Monroe. not much of a huge variety out there for our truck when it comes to shocks n struts. the diff between thhe two are the ranchoos are a bit stiffer, or so i,ve been told. i personal i hve monroe and they ride 10X better than stock

Default Thanks!

Churchboy,

Thanks for the quick reply! It's quite sad that the selection of parts is so slim for these trucks. Aside from the suspension, I have nothing bad to say about it. In fact, I think I like it a lot. I never thought I'd say that about a truck other than a Ford. :-)

I'll give the Monroe's a shot and see how the work out.

Thanks!

Scott

I have the monroes all around as well. Ranchos will give a stiffer ride from what I have read on here. I picked up my front struts for $77 each on rock auto. Had merchants tire install them. The install, alignment, rotate and balance 4 wheels was just under $300 out the door. So mine ended up costing less than $500 installed. Take the other $400 your going to save and buy a superchips tuner!

I went Rancho all around, some of the best money spent on my truck.
