Question Any experience? VDP Wheel well Ice Chest/Storage

I'm about to go on a trip to tow a broke down Ford Ranger back to Michigan.

I'm looking at getting a couple of these (still looking around for the fastest shipping*need by Friday*/best price) VDP wheel well storage units/Ice Chests

I'd plan to use the IceChest feature primarily on this trip. I have a cooler already but I wanted wheel well boxes anyway and this uses the space better, which I will need with 4 adults, 1 toddler, and a puppy on a 2,000 mile road trip.

Anybody got any experience with them, do they fit our trucks well? I've read varied reviews, but more folks seem to like them then hate 'em.

Well, can't find a place that can get them to me in less than a week, so I'll have to stick to a typical cooler and try these out later.

He's got a link in his original post...

I've seen the DeeZee version of that cooler box in stock at Tractor Supply, plus it's in the 4 Wheel Parts and Cabelas' catalogs. Right at or around $100. I know when I order from 4 Wheel Parts I can pick up the next day at my local store and Cabelas never takes more than 3 days to get stuff to me normal ground freight...

Dee Zee part number is DZ95P

Cabelas also has the VDP you are looking at for the same $129 that Summit has it for...

THANKS! I've got a TSC near me so it's worth a trip to see if they have anything.

I've also had good luck with Cabelas shipping but the only VDP I see on their site is for full sized trucks. Unless I am missing something? Man, I am just narrowly avoiding sounding like I'm looking to get my truck a Venereal Disease, but not too big of one...

I came across the Dee Zee in my searching but didn't realize it was also a cooler. Looked on 4wheelparts and Cabela's site and DZ95P won't fit as it's 19"H and I need ~16" or less H. Hopefully they make a smaller version as well though (don't have time to look, work whistle just blew) and if I am in luck TSC will have it in stock!

No 4wheel parts stores near me (never heard of them till now), figures I'll drive right by one though.

Ah, I didn't even consider for a small truck, I just know I've seen one in a Tractor Supply in Georgia. At least I'm pretty sure it was a Tractor Supply, if not it was an Agri-Supply, I go to both pretty regularly when I'm up in Georgia at my little piece of farm property...

since they go from the wheel well to the tailgate I think there is a fairly standard distance...don't quote me on that .. someone correct me if I am wrong.. and in my observation most trucks with varying bed length gain and lose the space between the wheel wells and the cab...

Tried both farm stores near me; no joy, & I know what you mean about goin to both. The competition is nice when your looking for something rare/non-typical, or when you just want some variety in your flock/herd/etc.

Worth the trips though, found some shades for the kid on clearance & grabbed a good puppy bed.

I believe that end of the bed is pretty standard as well. I need ~less than 16" in height so the tonneau can still be of use.

Surely you have a Northern Tool near you.

Was in one this morning, had to buy a plumbers snake. Neighbor lady had a clog and I went to get mine out the shed and it was so rusted it literally broke in my hands.

Well, anyway when I saw the truck box section, I remembered your thread and sure enough - Vertically Driven Wheel Well truck box/ice chest for compact/mid size trucks, model #31300, with dimensions of 32"x9"x16" (yeah, I wrote it down - my memory ain't that good), sitting there, in stock for $109.99
