Leveling kit problems
I bought the aluminum billet 2.5"kit from velocity off road and was going to install it next week. I drive a lot on rough dirt trails so is it a bad idea to drive over rough terrain with the leveling kit? Like if I hit a deep pothole will that cause the cv to bind?

Whether this is the upper or lower ball joint, this is in no way a solution. You will start seeing grease exit your tape job.
For the 4x4 guys, we have to worry about front cv angle. So, your 2.5" kit might be too much lift. Even with my 2" kit, when the truck is on the rack and the front suspension is at full droop, I get cv bind.

Yeah I wasn't sure if the 2.5" would be too much. Does it matter where the spacer sits or is the stress on the CV joint the same regardless? The kit I bought sits above the strut and I know some of them go inside of it.

CV bind is when the wheel drops to full droop as in if you were offroading and had one front wheel up on a rock/log, etc and the other front wheen is off the ground with nothing supporting it, or near off the ground, you get the idea. This puts the CV joint at an abngle it is not designed to operate at and can cause it to bind up. Hitting a pothole or driving on rough roads should not cause any issues. If the bind is bad enough, I guess it could break/damage the CV joint and you would have to replace it. 2.5" is pushing it for a 4x4. I have a 2" on mine. Thats as big as I would go.
Location of the spacer does make a difference, but has adverse affects. If you located the spacer in between the spring and the strut hat, then you won't get cv bind. However, reaching full extension of the shock will happen more frequently with off roading, straining the shock stops and making it uncomfortable to drive. If you locate the spacer between the hat and strut perch, then you won't reach full shock extension as often, but run the risk of cv bind, as it moves the operating range of the control arm travel. Both locations have the same affects on ball joints and tie rod ends. So far, nothing has linked the sway bar end link failures to the leveling kits. The factory ones were junk. I believe Mopar has upgraded ones to replace the factory units, which is what I bought when replacing mine.
