Default New chip key quit working. OEM still works.

Hey guys i'm wondering if anyone has had a locksmith make a spare chip key. I recently had one made and the key worked fine until i tried useing it a couple weeks later and it didn't work. I took the key back to the shop and they tested it with their equipment and said it was still working. They ended up reprogramming my truck or whatever it is that they do and the key works again (used it to drive home).

I thought perhaps changing the truck battery was the reason the new key quit working. I just don't believe dodge would make a vehicle that loses chip key programming after replacing your battery. If that is what happened how come the OEM remote key didn't quit working also?

Do i need to invest in one of those little cigarette lighter computer memory saver gizmos they used to sell at auto part stores?

I have 2 Spares, Programmed by me - cut by a locksmith for free.

They both work fine, Along with my 2 factory keys, Ive disconnect the battery a few times since I programmed them.
