Default 2005 v6, when did the auto transmission change? cutoff date?

how do you tell which automatic trans you have? I just got a call from my bro-in-law about needing to know which he has so he can buy a new trans filter. my searches have thus far come up with diddly squat about when the cutoff was during 05. is there an easy way to tell the difference between them (545RFE and the 42RLE?) that I can describe over the phone? build date is 4-05
thanks,
--Pete

Assuming you have an automatic it is the 42RLE with the V6 and the V8 has the 545RFE for 05+

I don't know about a cutoff, so maybe someone else will chime in.

Send a PM to DodgeCares w/ the VIN & an e-mail address & ask for your build sheet, then you'll know 100%, plus he was on here already today so he'd probably respond pretty quick.

Otherwise I looked that up once and I'll see if I can find it for you.

Description: Synchronized in all gears

42RLE - AUTOMATIC, 4-SPEED OVERDRIVE

545RFE, AUTOMATIC FIVE-SPEED OVERDRIVE

I read this as 545 became optional in 2003, and in 05 was standard in all automatic 4.7's

Looks like the 45RFE was in the 2000-2002 Dak's, but that's according to wikipedia which I've found to be incorrect about transmissions before...

If we don't have an FAQ entry for transmissions, maybe it's time to put one together and ask someone who knows for sure to check the info?
