Filter For Ranch Truck
Is there a prefered filter that preforms well for trucks that are constantly in dusty dirt road conditions? I don't want to drop in a K&N only to have it let in a buncha dirt particles...but i would like to have one that lets my truck preform well while drivng on the highways and in the city. Any ideas out there?
I use UNI foam filters for all my off-road machines and clean after every ride. Your gonna get a lot of people arguing both sides though...foam -vs- K&N. I can just say from my personal experience that the K&N allows much more foreign material through than the foam filters I've used. I've actually taken my K&N off after a good ride and found mud/sand inside the intake...this was greatly reduced when I switched to a foam style filter.
if your in constant dust conditions then nothing beats a paper filter for filtration. these pics are after the filter all with 500 miles on them. you be the judge of which is better.
I have the Amsoil Two Stage foam air filter in my truck. It works great in dusty conditions. The Amsoil air filters are rated at 94% efficient down to 5 microns. Basically it will trap dirt 5 times small than a paper filter, allows the air to flow through up 4 times better than paper and has a load capacity in excess of 5 times higher than paper. I have the 3.7L V6 engine and the filter costs around $40.00. My previous car I also had a Amsoil air filter and it lasted in excess of eight years. I just took it out once a year cleaned and reoiled it per the instructions. The 4.7L uses the same air filter as the 3.7L and you will need to purchase the can of foam filter oil (you won't need it for a year because the filter comes preoiled). The can of foam filter oil should last about 8 years.
I am sure the UNI filter has similar properties as the Amsoil air filter I just don't know anything about it.
