Worth a shot?
Hi guys,
This is a very minor thing, but I thought I'd ask your opinions first. In my 05' SLT, I have that hideous wood grain bezel around my stereo. I'm thinking of removing it to paint it a flat black or silver. Any thoughts on this or concerns I should know about? I just can't justify spending the $100+ to replace it with an OEM of a different color.

hehe...i had a hideous silver colored one that I changed out for a nice wood grain one...lol..they can be painted, just prep it correctly. I'm actually thinking about painting mine since I'm getting tired of it and I just like to change things....remove the bezel, rough it up with 1500 grit wet sand paper, prime and paint. Add some clear coat for shine.
I'm not a 3rd gen guy but I figured I'd throw this in here
My 93 Dak had the wood grain dash finish also....So I rockguarded it lol (Didn't have to do any prep cause this stuff sticks on anything, But if you're painting it make sure you prep it like everyone says.)

Man, thanks for the ideas guys. That walk through thread is awesome! Ya see, this is why I brought it here, even though it seemed so simple a task. Appreciate all the help! Maybe I'll post some pics when I get through it.
thats a hell of an idea.....I have a tan interior though.......dont think black would look good.
Do it yourself. I went to Lowes, spent about $30 on supplies. Got a plastic primer, hammered silver, flat back, and clear coat. Plus, 600 grit sand paper. Make sure the radio bezel is clean, get the sand paper real wet, lightly sand the whole front to give the paint a better texture to stick. Use at least two coats of primer to get a good base for the main color to stick to. At least two coats of the hammered silver gives a nice textured look (I would practice on something disposable to get used to how to spray even coats and get the texture you want). Then I misted over top (do not spray directly) with the flat black to darken the silver to your liking. Finish up with at least 3 clear coats to protect. After you are done you will have one sweet looking bezel and no more wood grain. Oh and don't forget to take your time masking everything. The last thing you want is a really good paint job and then when you peel off the tape find out that it leaked all over your vents or anything else. Most people can't tell or don't believe me when I tell them that I painted it myself.
