So I just got a 1997 Dakota, ext cab, 4x4, 318. I went and drove it and heard a whine that sounded like the rear gears. So I pulled the cover and saw that the spider gears where all chewed up and the fluid had tons on metal in it. Bought a new carrier and replaced all the bearings and seals and put back together. First drive last night and it makes the exact same whine. What is going on? Ring and pinion and axle shafts are the only original parts.
