can my power window stop my truck from starting?
I have a 2005 dakota slt. The other day I rolled down my automatic window and when i tried to roll it back up it only went half way and I could hear the motor in the door making a grating noise. I checked all the fuses anyway but there is none marked for the window, and none were blown that I could tell. In the morning I found that id left the dome lights on and it wouldn't start, not even a turnover noise. We jumped it off but it didn't fix it. My question:could this have something to do with my window, perhaps short circuting the starter?
Well it sounds like you had insufficient voltage to operate the power window motor and that the dome lights drained what was left of your battery..no noise at all though, I would check your terminal connections for bad contact and make sure there is no interference or corrosion. Also..sounds like a stupid question but do you have an alarm system? It happens all the time..people set their aftermarket alarm but unlock the car or truck with the factory fob and then the vehicle wont start because of the killswitch. Example..my father calling the local mechanic to tow his Camry because it "won't start" and then the guy just unlocks it with the alarm fob and it starts right up :P
the power windows in the dakota suck. you need to grease the window rails by spraying some type of lubricant down the rubber sleeves that the window sits in when it goes up and down. i spray white lithium grease down them every few months and i havent had a problem since i found out what was happening.

My battery tested fine. No, I don't have an alarm system. I just think that somehow the window is involved. I had no problems until it wouldn't go up and made that noise like something was broken. I'm taking apart the door but its just been too damn hot to stand out there without shade. Any tips on how to get the moisture guard off without leaving sticky everywhere?
