I would raise it, but don't take the wheels off just yet. Grab the top of each tire and try to shake it in and out, listening for any noise and feeling for any side to side play. (With the tires off, you don't get nearly as much "leverage" when checking the hubs.)

neither one has side play.... I have checked already, and I have almost no play @ 12/6 on the wheel. But the noise is relevant in the cab when I turn to the left.

I have heard that just because it doesn't wobble doesn't mean its good. your hands put a ton less pressure on a bearing than a tire at 30 mph around a corner.

Smile Just had a hub replaced last Friday under an extended warranty.

I had a noise while driving that I never experienced before - a low whine, growl but no metal to metal sound. Kind of hard to explain the noise. And I myself twice did the wheel bearings on my '97 Ram 1500 - that noise was more obvious of the problem.

The noise changed very little when turning even no change on a on/off ramp on the thruway. And I couldn't tell if it was coming from the front or the rear or even which side of the truck.

I suspected a wheel bearing, so I did jack the Dak up and checked for tell tale noise and wobble in all four tires. Nothing. No bearing noise and no wobble. All I heard in the front end was the transaxle turning.

Went for an inspection at the very end of July and had the dealer I bought the truck check it out - driver's side wheel hub.

PS - Peace and quiet - my radio is now at half the volume it was while driving on the Thruway. It very slowly grew louder and louder that I got accostomed to it.
