No they don't, there are several threads about swapping in electric fans from HHR's which are an acceptable swap. I'm looking to swap in a Mark VIII fan because they push 5,000+ cfms (Or so I've heard...technically read). It's not a difficult swap.

It will free up horsepower, yes. The water pump and clutch fan combined draw between 10-15 crank horsepower from the motor so you will have a power gain whether you feel it in the back of your seat or on the dyno sheet.

Only thing I really noticed was the lack of noise from the fan.

The engine definitely revs up quicker. Other than that I can't tell a whole lot of difference. There is nothing I have done to my truck that helps fuel mileage.

I'm dubious about the 5000 CFM claim, however, they do the job nicely.

HOWEVER...

The best of them draw 80 amps at startup, and some have been known to draw 100+ amps at startup. Thats far too much. The only way to allow that much is to wire the fan directly to the battery without a fuse, which is a big safety issue.

HHR fan, FF Dynamics, Flex-A-Lite Black Magic. All nice ways to go that work great, and can be wired in safely.
