My V8 is geeting better milage then that. I got 17.9 on a freeway road trip with a/c on, and about 12 to 14 around town with a/c on.

I have the 05 quad cab 4x4 with the 3.7 and auto trans and recently went on a trip around Oregon of about 1,000 miles, that consisted of about:
300 miles of freeway driving mostly with the ac on ....15.2 mpg
100 miles around the city of Roseburg with the ac on....10.1 mpg...OUCH!!! at $2.79 a gallon
85 miles to Crater Lake (8,000 ft elv) and then to around 200 miles to Redmond with no ac...19.6 mpg
Redmond to Mt Hood to Portland to my house near Mt. St Helens about 330 miles with the ac on a small amount of the time...16.7
These numbers are with 2 adults 1 child and about 300 pounds in the bed.
I was amazed at the poor mileage with the ac in town but was happy with it on the trips through the mountains.
My favorite thing was the handling on the curves through the mountains (extremely smooth and never once felt like it didn't belong on tight turns at all).

I've gotten up to 18.6 with mine. I drove to Newport Bay, OR, and back to Vancouver, on one tank of gas. I had 357 miles and when I went to fill up, I had another 20. Mine is also the 4.7L with AWD. I ran the AC, didn't have my Tonneau cover yet, went mostly up and down hills after getting off of I-5. Went through Corvallis and straight to Newport. In Newport, I did some around town driving too. I averaged about 70 miles an hour on the highway and about 65 on the road to Newport from I-5.
What I didn't mention though is, I did change the filter and bought a K&N for my stock box. I think that that makes a difference.
That was with 3 people in the vehicle too.
I have the K&N also but that doesn't do much for me in the stop and go traffic. I kind of think the QC 4x4 is a little heavy to get the benefit of the V6 for gas mileage, plus the added draw of the ac can't help either. More than likely that is why the 4.7 is almost the same mpg.
I did go to Seattle today and got 19.6 almost all of it on the freeway with no ac.
No not from Portland, although it certainly seems like I'm there enough. (I did buy the Dakota from Beaverton Dodge and it was a dealer swap with Vancouver Dodge)
I'm actually from Castle Rock, WA.

Vancouver Dodge wouldn't give me the price I wanted...Not even close...I actually paid a little over $1,000 less than my final offer at Vancouver Dodge.
QC 4x4 auto ST....MSRP $25,725....with dealer markup $28,175
My Vancouver Dodge final offer $18,200.00.....Their lowest price...$21,130.00
My Beaverton Dodge first offer $16,900.00....no arguement from them that is what I paid. It was by far the easiest purchase of a vehicle I have ever made. I was amazed they didn't even give me a counter offer.
Although they did try to sneak in an extra $3500 in extended warranties and some kind of security program when I was finnishing up the paperwork. I called them on it and it was instantly removed. My wife mentioned it to the sales manager and he then gave us a Line-X for cost ($300.00)

I am only getting 15 mpg city empty 4x4 QC 3.7, with a vinal toneu. Now i just recently made a trip of 500 miles of highway driving and saw 21mpg fully loaded bed and rear seat...with two people, ac on sometimes. I am pretty diappointed with the city mpg...if i would have known it would be this bad (or just looked at the sticker, lol) i would have probably gotten the v8....but the v8 didnt have nearly as many incentives as my v6 QC 4x4.
Vancouver gave me a nice deal on my old Dak of $15000 and I only owed $16000 plus the $3500 for incentives. I was shocked since my old Dak was a 99 but had low mileage.
Thanks, you have convinced me that this is not what I need to look at. I travel an average of 4,750 miles per month. With $2.56 gas all the figures I saw don't save me a lot, soooo.............guess it's back to a car, or should I say covered skateboard?
