Default Did I make a good purchase on my oil?

Just spent sixty bucks on oil and filter. Got a K&N HP2009 filter and 5 quart jug of Valvoline Full Synthetic Syn Power 5w-30.

Also how long can I go with this oil choice?

Umm Ouch! I paid $64 bucks for 2 - 5 quart jugs of Mobile 1 & 2 - Mobile 1 filters.

But, 5000-7000 miles is what I do. 5000 in winter, 6-7000 in the summer.

Now that I ride my motorcycle more, I change before winter, and then again in the spring.

Money didn't matter to me. I'm after protection. So do you think I made a good purchase?

Regular motor oil is fine for protection. Its all about regular maintenance.

Synthetic has some added cleaners that can actually harm some older engines, but have never heard anything bad about our low compression engines.

I am sure you are gonna be just fine with protection with that product.

Thanks good to know. I just seen alot of us on here are starting to run synthetic. I decided too mostly because of the benefits. Believe me next time I change my oil I'll buy it again. I set my change to 6,500. That seem alright?

Depends on what kind of driving you do. Mobil 1 guarantees 15,000 miles if not severe duty, probably around 6k is when that oil is broke in and protecting at it's best.

No towing. No heavy anything really. Hauling once in a blue moon. Nothing major. Just normal truck stuff.

That's the exact filter and oil I use in my Hemi, but mine takes 7 quarts. I can ALWAYS get the 5 Qt. jug of SynPower with a free K&N filter at Advance for $28.99, then the two extra quarts usually makes it come to about $44 after tax.

I change every 6000 miles, have had my oil tested twice - once with Royal Purple at 6k and once with SynPower at 6k and both times they said my oil should be good for another 3000 miles and then wanted it to test again. I won't run more than 6k though, but at least I know it's still well within spec when I change it...

Good to know. Thanks for the good info. Another question for you guys. What fluid should I run in my rear end and how much? 10 bolt rear end.

I'm a Manager at a Valvoline Oil Change shop, the Synpower oil is very good quality oil IMO. Even the MaxLife syn. blend is a very good oil.
