Who uses synthetic?
hey all, I've been running the usual 10W30 oil in the truck since I bought it 7 years ago. I only have 33800 miles on the truck as it is. I read about full synthetic and part synthetic oils and understand why they are used. My truck can't really be called new anymore, but it has very low mileage for its age. It is a 4.7L V8 High Output. I've been very religious about changing its oil and filter every 3 months (i hit 3 months before 3000 miles) I have a couple questions now that I've given the history.
Is anyone else using synthetic in the 4.7L engines?
Are you using full synthetic or part synthetic and what weight?
Do you recommend using synthetic?
I just want my baby to run her best. Thanks for the inputs.

I ran valvoline syntec full synthetic in mine. Started at @60k. Changed every 6 months or 6000 miles. Never had any issues. I started using mobile 1, but switched to the valvoline after the advise of a member on here to see if it would quiet the lifter tick I got every now and then when it was cold. Really didn't help that much.
I use Mobil 1 sythetic.
And I change my oil every 3K miles.
I think the benefits of synthetic engine oils have been thoughtfully discussed. The argument always seems to be weather the benefits are worth the extra cost.
As much as I punish my truck, synthetic oil to me is just as an added piece of mind.
Don't even get me started on brands. EVERYONE here has a favorite

I run the crap oil at jiffy lube, truck now has 127000 miles on it, no issues, and still pushing the nitrous, I feel synthetics is just a gimmick, some oil filters fail even before the oil change period is up
good link for the bob/oil guy.
for me mobil 1 full synthetic extended servivce 5w-30 & a k&n filter.
i like being able to use a socket to loosen/tighten the filter.
I usually change it every 5000 miles even though mobil claims its good to 15000.
the dak isnt my daily driver so it takes a while for me to hit the 5000 mark.

im running valvoline full synth. honestly i think synth is a better technology, but i don't think it differs much, tho synth can prob handle more-ish. My old truck ran valvoline conv. and ran it up to 160k miles on it, no leaks no problems. Its as long as you keep your truck running good and take care of it anything will do. for you, any high mileage oil (synth or conv) will help a little b/c they add stuff than keeps the gaskets and stuff from decaying quicker. Also even though i use synth, i still change every 3k/3month, i just feel like why keep dirty oil in the truck, a lot of people hate me for it but hey i only change oil like 3 times a yr anyway...

I run full synth with either a bosch or K&N filter. I run a bigger filter as well, I'm currently running a 3001 K&N. I usually run 8 - 10k miles. Synthetic is supposed to be good to at least 15k, amsoil to 25k. Synth Blends is a waste. One of the big reasons I use synth is because during winter synth doesn't gel up like Conventional.
X2. I run synthetic in the wife's Dak for better winter starting. She has to leave it in an outside parking lot during work with no plug in. At -30 and me working out of town I REALLY want to make sure it starts.
Thinking of putting the diesel on synthetic as this winter. It may sit for 2-4 weeks at a time in the winter when I'm gone and last winter it didn't want to fire up more than a few times.

Full synthetic here as well. Currently have Mobil1 5w-20 in the truck, factory fill (whatever it is) in the wife's Compass (it only has 800 miles on it).
I recently learned, through BobIsTheOilGuy and other sites, that Mobil1 no longer tests by the Chrysler "standard" oil test, which is MS-6395. The rumor is that when Fiat bought into Chrysler, they had a falling out with Mobil1 (used to be factory fills and dealerships use to use it for changes, supposedly). Now dealerships use Penzoil for changes.
I looked, and Penzoil is one of the few oils that still tests by the MS-6395 standard/specs. I am sure it doesn't matter that much, I am sure that the GM/Ford oil tests are just as demanding as the Chrysler one and that Mobil1 is fine, but I've read a lot of positive things about Penzoil lately.
Next oil changes, I am using Penzoil Ultra.
