Update. I can buy a complete front 3.92 diff for 200 bucks and change myself. That's less than the price of the gears alone. I actually told my guy to go ahead and pull one from an 06 with 60k on it. So that leaves the rear. They need 800 for a 9.25 rear which makes a gear change more reasonable. I'm familiar with swaping gears in Chevy 10-12bolt rears and 8.8 Fords. From what I've read, the 9 1/4 Chrys is a bit different?

Just to be clear I'm not looking to drag race or big tires. Just want the rest of the tow package I should have ordered in the first place.

Thanks again.

Good gears are not cheap, unless you find good used ones (like OEM used ones out of a junk yard). Had a few guys in the 2nd gen section that bought cheap gears ($200-ish per axle) and had them installed ($800-$1000), that runs about $1500 or a little less, and the gears whined like nuts. They work, but they sound like they are out of adjustment, even though they are not, because they were cheap.

You can do your own labor, but you need very specific tools. You can't just place them in there and expect them to work, you need a good set of specific tools designed for gear changes (adjusting backlash, for example). If you just throw them in there, without the right tools and adjustments, you will blow up your pumpkin pretty quick.

Also, don't forget about the proper break-in procedure for new gears. You can't just drive out of the shop and go back to business as usual, not right away at least. Check out the 3rd Gen Ram FAQ section for the break-in procedure, lasts a few hundred miles (at least).

Still researching the gears for the rear. Used set on ebay but no known history and who knows what price they end up at. Only aftermarket ones I have found that are identical 3.92 gear count are made by Nitro Gear and Axle at $300. 12-47 is the OE Chrysler and Nitro, Motive 10-39 and Richmond 11-43. I found several positive posts on the Nitro brand from installers and no negatives. Seems they are especially popular with the Toyota crowd. New from Mopar is $600 wholesale!

zombie resurrections.

I'm getting my 05 4.7L(non-HO) re-geared from the stock 3.55s to 4.10s I'm also running 265/75-16 Cooper Discovery ATP tires. This should put me within 30 rpm at 75 mpg of the stock 3.92 gear and 265/70-16 tire setup.
I want to get the computer reprogramed so the speedometer and odometer are as accurate as possible.

Will this involve telling the dealership to reprogram both the gears and tire size?

I'm trying to do my research so I can be clear when I go into the dealership, I've had some bad experiences with my local dealer so minimizing time spent the better for my stress level.

Are there other alternatives to going to the dealer for reprograming or getting a Dashpac?

Will some of the higher end Autel or Launch diagnostic computers do the reprograming jobs or is it Dodge proprietary software?

erau, the online parts catalogue for the 2005 says the speed sensor is in the transmission. I suspect the tone ring on the rear differential is for the rear ABS.

Skip the dealer trip. You can get yourself a Superchips 3845 (or older model 3865 like a bunch of us here have, or had) programmer, which lets you set gear ratio and tire sizes, among other settings. Plus you can get the benefit of a nice tune while you're at it.
