snow chains and sand bags
So, im already getting excited for snow season to arrive in at the ski parks in northern arizona in december. How ever i no longer have my '90 range rover classic for the snow anymore but i still have the 2wd 2006 dakota. Ive been a bit skeptical about taking this truck anywhere near snow as the rear of the truck likes to slide out even in small water puddles when it rains. I was wondering if anyone here has been successful with snow chains or sand bags in the back of the truck when it snows? What would be a decent amout of weight to add to the rear wheels for snow or should i not even try taking this truck up north? BTW, it has Falken Ziex tires on it, and is practically 1wd since there is no limited slip.
If your slides in puddles, Your Screwed in snow lol.
Ive had mine for 2 Winters, V6 2WD no LSD either. Ive only had it fishtail once at 90km/h on black ice. I used to have about a 4x25kg bags, plus another 35kg, untill someone decided to steal the top off the old US Military container and over half the sand bags when it was sitting half-way up my yard. (Took it out to move something)
I planned to do what someone else on here did, which was Seal the sand within a few small 1' or 2' Sections of 4" PVC so water cant get to it. Then get a new container for it.
Other then that, Snow tires are the best thing, Get a GOOD set. (I dont run stubbed, Since you can only use them in winter, I run my old winters in the summer once they are no good for the snow)
Ive never got stuck in the snow, and ive had it in some good snow storms. I dont try to tackle snow to deep, so I dont get stuck lol
