So do you have the old 4X4 or the new AWD?

Holy longest post I've ever seen on this forum...

Anyway, I'll try to keep mine simple and in layman's terms. My 08 TRX is AWD (wasn't my 1st choice. It's the only one I could find in my color) and here's my understanding of how it works: It's basically the same format as Jeep's Quadratrac. In 2wd mode, only the rear wheels drive and when the computer senses wheel slip, it electronically engages a clutch system to engage the front wheels. When you select 4wd high or low, it works the same as a typical 4WD transfer case. You do NOT have the option of 2WD with the AWD setup.

With all that said, I think mine may be 'broken' :/ Several times lately when the roads are wet or damp the rear will break loose and the truck goes sideways while making a turn pulling out from a dead stop under full power. It's "fun", but tends to catch you off guard when you're used to the AWD just kicking in and not letting the truck get any wheel spin. I'm sure half bald tires don't help either.

I should take it to the dealer before my warranty expires in February, but I may not just so I can have some fun with it again

2008+ did not have an AWD option. What are the options on your 4x4 **** (what do the labels around it state)?

This should explain it. Yes?

Full-time 4WD = AWD to me.

Actually the dealer explained it to me as the front tires only spin at a certain percentage of power until the rear tires slip, then the front tires lock into full power therefor the question of tearing anything up. My sheet from the dealer says AWD, not full time 4 wheel drive.
