Default Will a 2nd Gen Catalytic Converter fit on 3rd Gen?

Hi all, I thought i'd give this a try since there's such a great deal here locally on an Eastern High-Flow Cat. I am wondering if a bolt catalytic converter for a 2000-2002 V8 4.7L Dakota would by any chance fit on a 2007 Dodge Dakota with a V6 3.7L? And if so, does anyone who's familiar with these know if it might just be a little bit of work to get it to fit?

The reason I ask is i've been looking at pictures online and I cannot tell the difference between the 2 generations when I pull up magnaflow catalytic converters onlilne. The one i'm looking at has a retail around $950 and i'm able to get it brand new on clearance for $100. It comes with the 2 small cats up front, and the bigger one as well. Again, I can't see a lot of difference when I look at pictures online.

Well, I checked 2 different catalytic converter part numbers on Rockauto for a both 2004 & 2005 4.7 Dakotas, and it seems that the 2nd Gen will work perfectly.
The Walker converter is the same part number (#50209) for both generations. But on the other hand, the Eastern Catalytic converter has different part numbers for both generations, the 2nd Gen uses a 19.5" length converter, and the 3rd Gen uses a 24" length converter.

I'm thinking you'll be fine with the converter from the 2nd Gen, but of course, I am not absolutely positive, just an opinion.

Yeah, the Walker Cat shows the same part number for the 3.7.

Grab that thing for $100.

Alrighty, I just picked it up this morning. I'm going to get under the Dak and see if it fits. If its bolt on, i'll do it myself... Otherwise, back to the shop we go.

Just got back from the shop. So $100 for the Eastern Catalytic Converter for a 2000-2002 Dakota 4.7. Mine is a 2007 3.7L and they were able to get the catalytic converter on, however, there was lots of modification. They actually had to cut the Y-Pipe and extended it out more and what I noticed with the stock catalytic converter is that there appears to be 2 small ones at the top, and then 1 very small (high flow looking) cat at the rear. The Eastern bolt-on high flow cat I picked up has 2 small cats up front and the 1 larger one up front. After install, my truck got significantly quieter, and I blame it on the 3rd larger cat. I was wee-bit disappointed but I felt the truck was just a bit too loud after installing the aero turbine muffler and removing the OEM long-can muffler and resonator. I'm just a bit shocked at how much quieter is now. I'm having second thoughts of removing the 3rd larger catalytic converter and just going with a straight pipe from the 2 small cats all the way to the muffler. Any thoughts on if i'd have emission problems? Do I need the 3rd cat? I ask this only because I kinda miss the loudness and I feel like i've actually lost a little pep with the gas pedal.
