Default Getrag 238

By my understanding they put the Getrag 238 manual transmisson in both the Rams and the Dakotas. I through out the 2nd gear syncro in the getrag in my 06, 4.7L, 4WD dakota and the shop wants 2800 to repair it or 3400 to replace it. So I have been looking to see if I can find a transmision that I could put in my self to save some money but I cant seem to find any.

Does anyone know of a place where I can find one?

I feel your pain, that's a bitter pill to swallow. Generally speaking, there are quite a few really tough manual transmissions out there, but to use them in a power train configuration they weren't designed for normally requires 1 or more adapters (especially with a 4x4) and then the drive shafts and mounting brackets, etc. often need to be custom fabricated - none of this is cheap. Many Dodge/Chrysler products were never all that popular for modification, so you might find it very difficult to locate any engine-to-transmission or transmission-to-transfer case adapters. I guess if I was in your position, I'd do a thorough search of that transmissions availability in auto salvage yards - it was used in quite a few vehicle types, so shouldn't be that hard to find, and should be a lot cheaper than getting one repaired or rebuilt. I would try this auto salvage web site to which a lot of yards subscribe & see what they have close to your area. Around here, I see a lot of yards that have that transmission for about $1000 and up, but this might only be an advantage if you would be able to do the swap yourself.
