-What's My Truck's Weakest Link?-
Hey guys, me again. I have done plenty to my truck, but I still feel it hasn't made enough of a difference. Something is de-tuning my whole setup. I currently have an '05 4.7L Automatic with the True-Flow intake kit (uses stock Airbox), K&N Filter, Fastman 68mm TB, Jet Stage II Module, Gibson SS Headers, Gibson SS Single Swept Side Cat-Back, and I removed the snorkel from the aribox (big difference, highly reccomend it) which I thought was the weakest link. Now I am running 16x8 M/T Classic II's with BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO's in 265/70R16, which aren't exactly drag slicks, but there's something else holding my truck back, and I don't know what to do next. One thing I think might be doing it is my axle ratio. I've got the base 3.55, and I wish I had opted for the 3.92, I don't think there is really any way to switch now. The other thing I think may be a weak link is the intake manifold, but no options there as of yet. My last grip is the transmission. I don't know how to improve this thing, but it needs improving. It has a ind of it's own, even with the JET. Sometimes it likes to drop into third when I floor it, sometimes it just likes to accelerate in the gear it's in. It drives me nuts and proves to be very embarassing during those "Hey guys, watch this" moments when I floor it, and the damn thing just slowly hobbles along in whatever gear I was already in. I end up like the guy in the moves going "Really, I swear, this never happens. It's usually alot more powerful". So what do you guys think would help me out here? I need a whole lot of power for not that much $$$, or a great transmission mod.
I don't think I'm going to be much help to you. but do want to say that 3:55 is a good all-around gearset. Not too tall, not too steep.
3:92 is a drag racing gear. I do think you should have ordered those gears because it sounds like you are real serious about acceleration performance. The 3:55's aren't helping you there. About the trans... I can't figure mine out either. Never know what it's going to do and I hate that. I am not a drag racer but I know that I could shift this thing better than the factory automatic does. Perhaps we will get lucky and someone will put out a kit to make this thing work better. Also, thanx for the tips on the airbox snorkle, can't wait to try it.

No problem about the airbox, did you make the mod yet? I think the axle ratio really is the biggest thing holding me back right now. I've also heard that the transmission works a lot better with the 3.92 in terms of thrid gear and whatnot. How can I change it?
You Auto tranny learned how you drive, most likly when you were breaking in the motor and taking it easy. Try unpluging the battery so it can reset the computer and start fresh. Then drive it hard and the tranny should learn it and change for it. It's sound crazy but I did it on my stratus and the tranny acted alot diffrent, in a good way. Changing the rear gear should be easy, Remove the rear diff. pan and swap gears. Well I'm sure theres alittle more too, but not much.
Here's something to consider: Instead of using the Jet Module, wait until the Superchip programmer comes out. I've heard of people using Jet and it didn't make a difference. SuperChip will actually help with the shift points. They haven't come out with it yet, but that's what I'm going to buy once its out.
Hopefully that'll help you out.
Hopefully that'll help you out.
I hear ya guys. Unfortunatley, when I bought the truck, the 6-Speed was unavailable (february) since Dodge was having some trouble mating it to the engine or something. I wish it were a manual, then my problems would be solved. I might use the Superchip, but I think the axle ratio swap would be the best thing. My dealership made it sound like some moumental task, talking about replacing the entire front and rear differentials, something like 10+ hours of labor [sm=confused06.gif]. I'll have to call an aftermarket place.
