Go to a reputable auto parts store (Advance Auto, Autozone, O'Reillys, etc.) and they will test your battery for free. You don't have to buy a batter there from them if it tests bad (unless you want too), but they will test it for free and give you a little receipt-sized print out of what the battery is actually putting out.

Update...the battery was not doing what it should. I have a new one now and more problems are occurring.

I got codes p0300 misfire p1603 or p1643 something with ecm. U0101 loss comm with tcm.

Also the hard reverse shift and really no forward movement is still there

And the p r n d 2 1 display disappeared. The check engine light and temp lights were on and no codes were present the testers x2 all said pass.

Also sometimes when I go and turn the key there is only the dash indicators on and no start. Back and forth off/start three times will I then have the ability to start the truck.

Just because a battery is new, doesn't mean its good. But disconnect it and do a reset, maybe you'll get lucky.

I had that symptom on my 2005 Quad cab dakota 4.7 hard shift into reverse then little forward . Mine ended up being the transmission shift control module which is located on trans valve body. replaced that along with new filters ,fluid and everything all good been year and half

Did your truck seem sluggish then the shift problems occurred. If so did that symptom go away with the part replacement?

And is the trans shift control module the solenoid in the transmission. I asked for that part and they didn't know what I was talking about.

Ok i guess I see it. Is it the part that has a huge connector attached to it? Where did you get the part from.

I got mine from dealership for about $500.00 but seen them on Ebay for less. Might as well service trans as well new fluid and filters as well . It definitely took care of my issues
