IM talking to guys at a yard and they said they have a new one there that is 18" and and old one that is 20"...i would like it to be the new one. he told me to measure it but im having trouble doing it..
Face to face measurement of the drive shaft is going to be 26 3/4". I would recommend getting the double u-joint drive shaft, the CV joint that meet the transfer case isn't the strongest thing in the world.
So i just bought a new front drive shaft. double u joint...
but i finally got off the first four bolts then i went to take off the other side, and there is about 8 or 10bolts i guess but there allsuper smalland i dont even have the right size bit..
then i notice on the new one, there is 8 bolts but they are all ****in way bigger then the old ..
WTF? will they fit in/ it looks like there is another size hole between all the smalll screws ...but WTF?
they are so small i cant even get them off
pissed off...gonna have to go an talk to the guys where i bought it...they gotunder mytruck. measured it an then gave me that one sayin it would fit..
retarted

They one that is on there, assuming you have the stock drive shaft, has 10 allen bolts. They're a pita to get out. But if the guys at that yard gave you the right drive shaft it should bolt right up. Do you have any pictures? I've been though all of this, so seeing what you're new drive shaft looks like would help alot.
hey
holy crap. i have to admit, that was the hardest thing i have ever done in my life.
getting the old drive shaft out an puttin the new one in
it was 6 8mm bolts that were an inch and half long..and then 4 on the other side.
it was the right shaft- this new one was a double u-joint, so it fit i was happy
i started at 9 am again this morning and only finished at 2pm, but i stopped for an hour
it took about 15 min to get each bolt out ( the 8mm ones)
satisfying but i would have definitly payed a shop 150 to do it hahaha.
the worst part was - after having gotten all thebolts out, i then had to ****ing chizzeel one side off , that took probably a half hour of cursing and screaming, all this was done from under the truck not jacked up.
thanks for the help
i gotta hand it to mechanics. not easy work
i dont feel so badabout paying 900 dollars for having my transmission swapped now
