Default alternator

Hey forum. I've recently had my alternator go bad on 2009 dodge dakotan. I plan on replacing it myself but I'm a little stuck on getting the belt loose, anybody with some knowledge on this?

Pick up a Serpentine Belt Tool from your local auto parts store, and use it to pivot the belt tensioner (part number 2 in the link) to remove the tension. The tensioner has two pulleys: One is fixed in place ("idler pulley"), and the other is spring-loaded to maintain belt tension. This is the one that needs to be pivoted, using the above tool with the correct hex socket to fit the pulley bolt. Make sure the pulley doesn't "snap" back against the stop when you release the belt tension, so as to not damage the internal spring mechanism or the stop.

Also check to make sure that the belt is correctly routed over and under the pulleys when finished. And then double-check.
