Default steering box leak.

Can anyone tell me of this nut on the bottom of the rack and pinion is something you can tighten with a wrench or is this an O-ring seal? it has a bit of fluid all around it before i wiped it off, Also opinion on the passenger boot, if its wet on the bottom and dry on top would you think i have a seal leak there as well? Right click and open pic in new window to see detail.

Asking because the shop told me i will need to replace the rack and pinion.

Thanks!

Your outer seal is is leaking for sure. Gonna need a new rack, they do not sell rebuild kits. unless you are super handy you might find parts and seals somewhere.

Also add an alignment into the works, along with a gallon of atf-4

Thank you! I was getting ready for new struts and outer ball joints when this was discovered.
