locking tire in bed
I use a cable lock and lock it to one of the front tie-downs in the bed (I have one of those threaded chain links on the tie down so I can get the cable through). I don't expect it to stop anybody who's really determined to get my crappy old spare tire, but it will stop anybody who would just grab it and run.
I'm about to take off for the weekend, so I won't be able to post a pic, but it's just a regular cable lock like this:

Looped through the wheel and padlocked to the front tie-down (I'm not sure what the tie-downs look like in a 3rd gen, so you may have to improvise here) that has one of these attached to it to make the cable/lock attachment easier:

I tightened the chain link really tight so it would be difficult to loosen it (impossible without tools), but you could tack weld it or Loctite it if you're really worried.

Do they make one of these for our trucks? I remember looking for one a while ago and i couldn't find one specifically for the Dakota. I'm guessing custom made is the way to go?
