Default Starting problems

So this is my first post if I did anything wrong I'm sorry. As for the starting problems two days ago I went out to my 07 3.7 and went to start it and just got a single click that didn't sound like it was coming from the starter. The weird thing is it is my daily and just 8 hours before that it started just fine. Since I couldn't think of anything else I went and got my battery tested and got told it was fine so I went ahead and replaced the starter now I'm back to square one and completely unsure of what the problem could be. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Did you try jumping the connection directly from battery to starter? This would eliminate the solenoid as a possible problem, also confirm your cable is not corroded or broken

It could also be a shorted wire or a bad ground. Where are you located? do they use a lot of salt in winter?

I live in Northern Ontario, where we use salt and other crap on the roads in winter. Every spring I check all the grounds and other important wires (fuel pump, fuse block, computer) on each of my vehicles just incase. My 88 chevy pickup and my 08 caliber had grounding issues due to corrosion. So far nothing with my Dak. (knock on wood)

That click was most likely the starter solenoid - it's sort of like a relay and switches the high amperage circuit to the starter. When it clicks like that, you often have a battery problem or a high amperage connection problem of some sort. I would check all the wires (especially the thick ones) that go from the battery to the starter (solenoid) and the connection they make. Also, you need to check the ground from the battery to the engine and to the body. These connections can get corroded or broken leaving you with a circuit that has a lot of resistance - the starter needs a lot of amperage to spin and if it can't get that, it'll just sit there.

What symptoms are you getting now that you've changed the starter?

Have you tried another battery (sometimes the people that test the batteries don't necessarily know what they're doing and do a "no load" test & declare your battery great)? Borrow one or get a jump, but if there's anything wrong with the battery, it can stop the flow from a good battery if you try to jump it - I prefer to take out the battery in question and put in a "known good" battery for the test.

Dead battery. I'm assuming whoever checked it probably only checked the voltage.
