Default Transmissions

Did the 3d gen Dakotas ever come out as a 4x4 v8 MANUAL version? I can find 4x4 v6 manual and v8 4x2 manual but cannot seem to find a manual trans that was meant to go with the 4.7 v8 and 4x4. The manual transmission for all 2005 Daks is listed as Getrag 238 but cannot turn up any real information on the thing which is kinda odd...

I'll move this to the 3rd gen section so it gets more visibility.

Yes, there are some 05+ Dakotas with 4wd, V8, and Manual 6 speed trans.
It was a rare combination and may be a difficult hunt to find one.

Here are the Engine / Transmissions that were available:
It may differ over the years, this is from 2006.
I think the 4.7 engine paired with a manual transmission option ended with the 2008 models.

3.7L Magnum V6/6-Speed Manual
3.7L Magnum V6/4-Speed Automatic
4.7L Magnum V8/6-Speed Manual
4.7L Magnum V8/5-Speed Automatic
4.7L High Output Magnum V8/5-Speed Automatic

Thanks! I realized I had posted in the wrong section immediately after I hit post but either can't or don't know how move/delete.

Ok thanks. I guess they are just really hard to find. Anyone know if all Getrag 238s (the manual trans in Daks) are the same minus the vehicle specific mounts and linkage etc or are they completely different? Is there a major difference between the 4x4 and 2x4 model or is it simply that one goes out to transfer case where as one goes out to the driveshaft?

My '05, 4.7, 4X4 has the Getrag 238 tranny in it. Love it, smooth as silk. Much better than a slush box, when you put it in a gear it stays in that gear, doesn't shift when it wants to, only when the driver wants to.
I don' know, but I would suspect that the 4X4 and the 4X2 use the same case and gears, although the output shaft may or may not be different for going into the transfer case.

2006 was the last year of the Getrag paired with the 4.7. When I bought mine, no manual was offered with the 4.7

I got the v8 4x4 m6 too! "straight drive" the old skoolers call 'em. My father in law says "we waited for 50 years for a decent automatic transmission, and you by a straight drive on purpose?" yep, cause it's just that, a direct link to the diffs, not a slippy, power-sapping semi-viscous, over-weight, device that inherently wears out or fails! I prefer manuals. I do wish that I could shift at full throttle in the mud and keep tire speed like an auto, but i'll take the power, efficiency and control any day.

only v8 manual pick ups offered in 06 when I bought the truck were 3/4 ton or used. there are even less now. long live the mt.
