Vibration Problems
New guy here, My 05 is at the dealer today too. At 2000 mile had ABS mod. Burn-up. Rear gears burn -up
Told them it whined and vibrated. They had it three days ,told me it was repaired after new abs module and new rear gears and a little wire splice forgotten at the factory. Then I drive it around town until 4500 miles , get it out on the freeway ,try to stop and it vibrates like crazy. Took it back last week and now they say it needs new rotors and pads all the way around, (Bad Batch ) He tells me. I take it home to wait for parts, He calls me day before yesterday and tells me, parts are all in, rotors ,pads and (new axels?) I wonder if they will ever get this truck right. This sure isnt the dodge I am used to driving, The one that never broke down or even missed a beat. Well thats my rant, Thanks for listening, Dave
Sadly this is a problem for some (myself included) that just does not go away..
Some of you may have read in one of my previous posts that we had dealt with the vibration problem for quite some time until it actually became a tremendous safety issue.
As much as I did not want to do it we had to get rid of the truck. I just did not feel comfortable putting my family back into that vehicle or any other 2005. A 2006 was not an option because neither the dealer or DC would give me what I thought was a fair trade or exchange for the vehicle. I really don't believe that I should of had to pay an extra $7,000 for an 06 especially when they had my 05 for 4 out of the 7 months that I owned it. It's funny because when I initially had the problems the dealer was more than gracious and concerned but when it really came down to getting something done the true "car dealer" showed it's ugly colors. My wife had a great statement to the owner of the dealership "you are a 5 star dealership but I guess we are just 1 star customers"
We have personally found out that at least for us anyway DC just does not care about customer safety and customer service!
We eventually traded down to a 2006 PT Cruiser for my wife. We did not have much choice as it was only a dodge or chrysler dealer and I had basically given up trying to get them to have some integrity when it came to exchanging for an 06 Dak. I on the other hand have just went out and purchased a beautiful 1971 Chevy 4x4. No computers, no tremendously over priced parts, no depreciation, very similar MPG and anything that breaks on it I can fix myself!
I hope the rest of you have many years of trouble free Dakota ownership as for me I'll never buy a Dodge truck again.
The really sad part about this whole thing is that I really wanted to love this truck.

hey whats goin on everyone? This is my first post. I have an 05 Dakota QC 3.7 4X4. I have about 2300 miles on mine. I am also having a rough ride lately. I have offroaded with it one time but nothing to cause it to drive like it has been. I have the steel rims and i just read what others were saying. I'll take mine in and see what they say.

I have an '05 Dakota 4 x 4 extended cab with steel wheels and 1500 miles on the clock. Vibration problem is worst at about 50 - 55mph. Just retrieved it from dealer after 3 days of tire balancing and Goodyear vs Chrysler on who was going to pay for new tires.
Of course none of the dealers carry the OEM tires so it's back to the dealer next week for tire replacement after ensuring it was a "tire problem" and not the wheels. I took the DAK to Goodyear myself prior to dealer who completely checked out the wheels and tires and the tire dealer said it's the wheels. So here we go!

Welcome to Dodge Forum,

Good luck at getting your problems taken care of. My dealer took care of me right away. That's because I raised hell and the fact that I'm on my 4th Dodge truck from the same dealer and salesman helped.

I agree. Safety for the customer should have been their first concern. If I had been the dealer, I would have given you a newer 2005 as a straight over trade. I would think that they would want to keep you as a returning customer. Sad Sad Sad.
My check engine light came on for the fourth time. Turns out i needed a new fuel cap because fuel was evaporating out of the cap causing the sensor to kick on. I also told them about the vibration i had when driving 50 mph and up and when i hit the break fairly hard. So in turn they turned the rotors and it is almost all gone. some of you guys should have them turn the rotors and see if that works. Only complaint i have is the break pedal is a little lower and takes some getting used to. oh and i checked my air pressure in my tires and i was at 30 psi and the door says i think 34 so make sure you check that out too. Have a happy thanksgiving. Nick
I have had this vibration problem for the last 5 months, truck in service at the dealer at least twice a month since I bought it. The vibrations started anything over 50 mph at 205 miles. They have replaced the tires (3 different sets) (2 sets of rims), it made it worse each time. PEOPLE DO NOT LET THE DEALER BALANCE THOSE TIRES!! IT JUST SCRATCHES UP THE RIMS!!!! We had to wait for Chryler to get involved, the dealership under chryslers direction, had them replace the axels, drums and rebalance the driveshaft. All parts were replaced with 06 parts. Problem not fixed...... After a trip to my laywers office and discovering that the dealer only had 2 service tickets for me, (they did not close them out each visit) this is to keep them from having to deal with the lemon law. DO NOT LET THEM DO THIS TO YOU. Make them close that service ticket each visit. All the parts that were removed from my Dakota 05, were sent for testing, every thing was to spec. The service manager wanted to try one more thing. I have the all terrain goodyear tires. They took the street basic tires with plain rims from an 06 that had just come in. They swaped them....... Problem solved! This truck has never been so smooth. It took them another month (to figure out if they are "winding their watch, or scratching their A@@) to get a different brand of all terrain tires. My rep at the dealer just brought the truck back to me about an hour ago. Vibration is 100% gone. IF YOU ARE HAVING VIBRATION PROBLEMS, MAKE THEM REPLACE THE BRAND OF TIRES. I hope this helps people out there, please feel free to contact me if you have questions.
There is also a technical service bulletin on the rear axils now for vibration in the rear end. Had my 05 QC 4X4 IN THE SHOP FOR VIBRATION WITH LESS THAN 300 MILES!!!! My problem was solved by a simple tire cross over, but another guy I talked too told me that after multiple accusations by the dealership that he exceeded the towing capacity that they finally fixed his rear end because of the technical service bulletin despite that he denied the towing issue.
