Total noob here when it comes to rims (and pretty much anything automotive). I have an 05 Dakota Laramie, v8 4x4 QC. I want to have black rims to go on the truck in the future but want to make sure what I want will fit without modification, as well as get other options. I know my current tire size is 265/65/17. Everything on the vehicle is stock. After my research my stock rims should be 8 x 17 , 5 x 5 1/2 bolt pattern. I'm wondering if this rim will work:

Didn't even know how critical backspacing and the offset were until I read the links in that thread. I guess I could check the backspace while the tire is on but unless I pull the tire off the rim I wont know my exact offset. This is more complicated than I thought lol.

 

The offset on the wheel above is 0mm (zero), which will push the wheel out an inch. That will cause some rubbing, and trimming to be done. The stock wheel offset is 25.44 mm, so you'll want something similar. A ton of wheels have an offset of 18mm or 20mm, pick something like that and you're fine. And your best bet is to stick to a wheel no wider than 8".

 

So as long as I stick to a 17x8 rim, with an offset of +20mm I should be good to go? Will backspace still become a factor if I get close to my factory offset?

 

17" x 8", offset of 20 (not -20) is perfect. The backspace works hand in hand with the offset, if you get a good offset, then the backspace is good too.
