Default Transmission problem

Message:
Truck is a 2006 Dakota 4.7 High Output motor. I don't know
the exact transmission in it but this truck has every option on it
so I would assume it's the better transmission they had. Here
is what's going in. Months ago it started with just the trans
temp light coming on every once in a while. It would come on
and go off soon as I turned the truck off and restarted.
Sometimes it would come on and go right back off on it's own.
No pattern to this is was just do it at random. Next the trans
temp light would come on and then the truck would shift down
from over drive and wouldn't shift anymore until I would turn
the truck off and then restart. Sometimes it would go weeks
and never mess up. I would haul 1000 plus pounds in the bed
with no problems. Next, one day I started it and went to put it
in drive and it wouldn't go. Finally it went just a little and the
check engine light came on. Once again I turned the truck off
and restarted and everything was fine. The check engine code
had a list of trans codes with one being "Low input Voltage
TCM" it also listed low pressure range A range B and range C.
Once again it would go a few days and sometimes a week or
longer and never mess up. When it would I could turn the truck
off and restart and everything was fine. Even after a few days
the check engine light would go off. At this point I took the
truck into a transmission shop and was told since there is no
slipping or hard shifting and the trans fluid looks fine he
thought it was one of 2 things, either a bad electrical
connection or a bad TCM which is in the main computer. I
went home and inspected all the connections I could find on
the transmission and everything looked fine. Went to the
computer and couldn't figure out how to get the connections
unhooked but everything seemed solid. I checked the ground
on the computer and it was extremely rusted and corroded so I
took it off and cleaned it up really good and even installed a
second ground wire to the computer. After that everything was
fine for about 2 months. Then one day I went to start the truck
and turned the key and nothing. Took key out and tried a few
more times and finally started. After that trans temp light came
on. Turned everything off and started back again and once
again everything was good. As weeks pass I get the same turn
the key and nothing but will finally start. When I say nothing I
turn the key all the dash lights up then when I go to start it I get
nothing. Now over the past couple weeks things have gotten
really bad. It's back to when I put it into drive it won't hardly
move. I can drop it into second gear and it'll pull just fine.
When I do put it into drive the transmission shifts really hard
when it goes into gear. Sometimes now I can turn the truck off
and restart and everything is fine. The starting problem is still
going on at random. Now over the past few days the truck has
started making a whistling sound when I'm driving. It comes
and goes when I press the gas. The load load the truck it
under the louder it is and when I let off the gas it gets less. It
only happens when I'm driving and doesn't happen when in
park and revving the motor. Also the hard shift into first and
truck not moving has gotten really bad the past couple days.
For example yesterday I drove the truck about 4 miles and
turned it off for a couple hours. Everything was fine then other
then the whistling noise. When I got back in the truck I would
put in drive and hard shift and wouldn't go. I could drop it into
second and it would move just fine and then shift into drive
and he would shift hard and go just fine but wouldn't shift past
3rd. I tried and tried many times to restart the truck and the
same thing every time. I let the truck sit all night and this
morning everything was fine again except the whistling sound.
Before the whistling sons started a few days ago I was just
about ready to buy a new computer since everything was fine
on restart and the starting issues but now with the whistling
sound I don't know. Can anyone give me some suggestions?

I have the same issues as of just today turn the key nothing but lights! I really am starting to HATE this pos truck, stuff breaks way to easy. from the poorly designed steering, terrible front and rear axles, junk transmissions, weak engine, lack of after market support, no wonder dodge needed a bail out now their owned by fiat💩, never another dodge for me unless its from the early 70's. sorry to hi- jack put I'm really pissed at the moment

I had similar symptoms with my 2005 4.7 Quadcab 545RFE automatic trans which I believe is the same as yours . Sounds like your trans is going into limp mode after hard shift when you shut off ignition it temporarly resets computer but problem returns .My solution was to replace shift sylnoid located on valve body of trans. But if you are getting a code for TCM it could be time for new computer What is the voltage reading for your battery sometimes low voltage can creat strange symptoms on these trucks if your battery is more than a few years old might try and install new one and see if that helps
