Default instument panel removal

Hey guys, My question(s) are... 2005 dakota SLT crew cab, 3.7L, auto trans, 2WD. I need to replace my heater core. Ive disconnected the a/c lines, the heater hoses, removed all the crap from the front, the sides, and the top of the instrument panel, now, does the steering column have to be completely REMOVED, from the vehicle? OR, can I just lower it, so I can get the panel out? And if so, what is the procedure for just lowering it? Do I have to pull the wheel, airbag clockspring, etc. anyways? PLEASE HELP ASAP! Thanks ( Im new to the site, hope this is posted correctly.) I know what the manual SAYS, I need to know what I can GET AWAY with!

This is probably no help here, but I've done 2 in other vehicles and was able to get away with just lowering the collum and was able to slide the dash out.

I'm sure you've already done this, but check youtube and the other forums.

actually, yes, you were right, just lowering was good, and thank you for giving me a response. Holy mother of God, what a totally insane amount of work though, this is my first core, YIKES!

Glad ya got it. Never heard of an easy heater core on any vehicle. I've got a car that needs this done, bought the core - was only $30. but just can't bring myself to take on that job. Hope I'll find someone else.

*ahem* 1988 Dakota, only a half dash needs to be removed.

1950 Studebaker, easy peasy to remove and install, it's under the seat.

I had an 89 Ford Bronco II that was super easy, just a few bolts under the dash on the passenger side to get the cover off, and the core slid right out. Easiest one I've ever seen. Wish they were all like that. I hate these engineers sometimes 😡
