Default backup alarm switch

I'm just getting started on upgrading the stereo and all, Installed my camera with the sonar system. It was pretty nice until I had to pull my utility trailer yesterday. With the trailer I get a continuous alarm when backing up thats very annoying. Is there any kind of switch that would open the circuit when the hitch is slid into the reciever?

I've done a good bit of looking around, apparently theres nothing out there. I'm going to see if I can rig something up. If nothing else I'll splice in a toggle switch and hope I remember to turn it back on after pulling a trailer.

i was about to say just that. there should be a power wire for the sensors or the signal wire itself that you can add a toggle switch to. or better yet, a momentary switch with a relay so it turns it off when you press the button but when you turn off the truck it returns to being turned on. when you have a trailer, you can press it and it turns off the sensors until restart.

i'm trying to dig up a schematic on how to wire that up. i built something like that in college.

the basics are when the truck turns on, the relay finds power and turns on the sensors. but when you press the momentary switch, the relay turns off but stays off until the truck turns off. it does this by powering an LED and getting signal from it to keep the relay from switching back. hopefully i can find you the schematic if you want to go the extra step to have it more like a stock system.

I know what you're talking about, and think I ran across plans for that bypass in my searching. I'll keep it in mind.
