Default possible pcm problem?

2006 dakota 3.7 4x4 quad cab. I purchased this truck used 2 months ago. after a few weeks it started running rough and shaking violently. hooked up my dads obd II and got all 8's flashing an error. drove it to mechanic he got all kinds of codes. not communicating with pcm miss fire cylinder 4 and a few others.
He cleared the codes started it up and the check engine light came came on. only code was miss fire cylinder 4. Replaced all plugs and ignition coil on 4. It ran great for 3 weeks. I was going down road i was going down road and rpm's started going up and down shifting really hard and stalling at stops. got it home stalled going into driveway then wouldn't start again.got my dads tester again and same thing all 8's flashing error. had it towed to mechanic, his scanner read crank sensor.replaced it and truck ran fine for 3 weeks.
2 weeks ago i was going slow through town and noticed hard shifting and rpm movement. didn't happen again and no check engine light.thanks giving night went to start it and it cranks but wont start.gave it a little throttle and it started up ran rough and stalled. there was a check engine light so tried dads tester one more time with same result. wouldn't start again all weekend so I had it towed to mechanic on monday. It started right up and stalled when he tried it. hooked his scanner up and got not communicating with pcm.
he tried to get a code a few times that week but never could. had it towed to dealer friday. started right up for them and died pulling into bay. they hooked their scanner up and got tps code. they changed the throttle position sensor today and called to say it seems to be working.
anyone else have problems like this? why won't my dad's and mechanic's scanners read this vehicle? any advice would be greatly appreciated.

what scan tool is your dad using? The simple answer is its not compatible.

need to know what modules are not communicating...just pcm or are others in the same state? If so, which ones.

tps are known issues with these trucks.

Yes, and make sure you get OEM sensors. Theses trucks don't like those from AutoZone. I replaced my TPS and IAC after having random low idle issues and sometimes stalling. No problems since then. And I use a code reader from Pep boys, it was not even a high dollar one, I think it was less than 40 bucks. I have not had any problems with it reading my truck or my wife's Honda odyssey.

My dad's scanner is quite old late 90's early 2000's but it's obdII and reads his 98 dakota and every other vehicle it's ever been hooked up to. just gives number codes though, no lcd screen. I don't know the exact codes the mechanic was getting he just said there was a bunch of them.
I just picked it up from the dealer and it's running fine. for how long I don't know. I havent yet made it a full month without having to call a tow truck.

well they fixed it with the oem sensor and I hope it works because they charged me $104 for the part and $174 to install. and I'm pretty sure it takes about a minute and a half to replace that one.
