Default What's the "Engine VIN Number"

Hi guys,

First post for me on this forum. Just got a 06 Dodge Dakota, 4x4 / 4.7 engine.

Each time I want to order spark plugs or other engine related parts, both Rock Auto and Napa ask me for the "Engine VIN Number" a offer me two choices, "J" or "N". What does that mean, and where can I find the info ?

Engine code is the 8th number in the VIN. "N" is the normal 4.7L Magnum. "J" is the high output version.
