Air conditioner snafu
Funny thing. Just to know what was where I found the AC relay in the fuse block and the air sensor on the cross member in front of the radiator. Just kicks I pulled the connector off the air temp, the sockets- pins were nice and shiny. Then for S&G I pulled the ac relay. Visually nothing of any concern with it either.
I had to run in to town but my SIL was parked behind my wife's buggy so I had to take the truck. Round trip the AC didn't miss a beat! So it would appear my monkeying around fixed something if only temporally.
Tomorrow I'll take your advice and replace both with OEM parts, the dealer has them in stock.

I took your advise and bought both the temp sensor and relay from the dealer. On the way home Friday after my wife's doctor appointment it quit again. Initially I thought maybe a blown fuse but no, the new relay was hot enough to fry an egg on so I put the old one back in.
Today I got to looking, cold, the new rely coil measured 12.6 ohms, the old 87.2. Just for giggles I stuck the new one back in to see how long it required to heat up but it didn't get any warmer than the other relays. If fact after maybe 15 minutes the trans relay was a tad warmer. After another 15 minutes or so it was still only warm to the touch.
One thing I noticed right off the bat with the new relay the comp clutch cycled on and off with the new relay whereas it was engaged 100% of the time with the old one.
I'm starting to think I was fighting two problems, a bad relay and possibly a corroded and or dirty pin socket or sockets which may explain why it failed when driving, It was making,breaking or only making partial contact due to vibration and by removing and installing the relays I may have cleaned the sockets enough to make good contact. I have to find something small enough to get in and clean the sockets proper but in the short term I gave them a shot of contact cleaner.
I just finished letting it operate for about 30 minutes. The new relay was only warm to the touch, the clutch cycled on-off and the air at the middle vent was 40 degrees, about 10 less than before.
Maybe?

Finally, the AC quit working altogether. The problem turned out to be the high side pressure transducer. I found a simple way of test it using a 1.5V battery and connecting it to the ground and output connections on the plug. Ten times I tried the battery and all ten times it started working so I bought a replacement at the local Advance Auto ( $45) in two minutes to install it and like magic ....50 degree cool air.
I just got back from a 20 or so mile test drive, I was nice and cool the entire trip.
