New front springs from moog or not?
I'm researching doing a shock replacement and leveling kit for my 05 QC 4.7L 4x4 125K mi
What experience have those that have replaced the OE springs with the MOOG equivalents? Did you pick up ride height? Did the spring rates seem the same? Did you compare the old springs free length with the replacements, if so what was the difference? Does the quality seem equal or better than the Dodge parts? Currently the distance between my wheel center and the fender lip is 19.5 inches, is that average? |
How about this question;
Anyone know if the spring rates changed anytime during the 3rd generation? Per the Moog catalog: 2005 Dodge Dakota 4wd 2008-2009 Dodge Dakota Part No: 81348 Install height: 7.613 inches Free height: 14.167 inches Constant rate. Part No: 81356 2006-2007 Dakota 2006-2007 Dakota RWD 4.7 V8 2005-2007 Dakota 4WD 3.7 V6 2007 4WD 2006 4WD 4.7L V8 Install height: ?? Free height: 13.89 inches Constant rate. |
I can't recall anyone replacing the springs. Other than the which comes with springs and ready to install, some members have them. And you would think that there are different springs for either the V6 or V8, the V8 would be a bit lower with the extra weight.

I replaced mine with the moog assembly. yes it did raise the front end enough that I had to take the leveling kit off. It put everything in a bind when making turns on country roads and bumps. I didn't take measurements though. It did make a major difference also, for the better. However, the ones I replaced where also 11 years old.

Here are the specs I got from MOOG:
Part No: 81348 2005 Dodge Dakota 4wd 2008-2009 Dodge Dakota Free height: 14.167 inches Spring rate: 690 lbs. per inch. Part No: 81356 2006-2007 Dakota 2006-2007 Dakota RWD 4.7 V8 2005-2007 Dakota 4WD 3.7 V6 2007 4WD 2006 4WD 4.7L V8 Driver side spring has a free height of 13.855 inches, spring rate of 690 lbs. per inch. Passenger spring has a free height of 14.309 inches and a spring rate of 572 lbs. per inch. Anyone know why the difference mid generation then back again?? |
