Default ABS or no ABS?

I’m rebuilding my front suspension and im confused about my findings. On the drivers side the wheel bearing appears to have the ABS wire on it, but the passengers side didn’t. What’s going on? I ordered the wheel bearings today, before I got to the other side. So now I have non-ABS wheel bearings coming. 😩

Thanks everybody! 😊

With the one wire up front, you do not have ABS up front, or 4 wheel ABS.

Your truck has only rear wheel ABS. You're good.

Ok then, but what’s the wire for and where does it go? Does it have something to do with the 4wd?

I'm curious about this as well now. I just bought a bearing/hub assembly for the front driver side (with ABS), under the assumption that since it had a wire on the front driver side bearing area that it was all wheel ABS. I think there was only one wire. Now I think I might want to check the passenger side and rear as well to make sure it is 4 wheel ABS lol. I guess i'll know if mine is when I go to take it out. Are their 3rd gen Dakota's that are 4 wheel ABS and some are 2 wheel ABS? I based my assumptions off of this video:
which is a 4wd bearing hub replacement. I just assumed it would be abs on all 4 bearings/wheels if it was on one.

You should be able to just look and see the wire coming up past the upper A-arm. I called the dealer and what they said was that they had both all wheel ABS and only rear wheel ABS. But the rear wheel setup gets its reading from the sensor on the left front. There’s no sensors on the back axle.

IIRC, there is a speed sensor in the front, whether it's for Cruise Control or 4wd, I'm not sure.

Rear wheel ABS is standard, with 4 wheel ABS optional on all Dakotas.

what year is the vehicle? engine?
Is the abs light on all the time when driving? does the abs light come on for a bulb check when the key is initally turned to run?

Well, mines a 2005 3.7L 4WD. The ABS bulb comes on during initial key turn, light does not stay on constantly and is behaving as intended. In my case, I figure i'll just put the ABS bearing in the front even if it is rear wheel drive (although I'm pretty sure mine is all wheel ABS). Seems it should fit either way.

Whoever replaced that bearing before mistakenly installed the wrong one.No sense in spending more money for a sensor equipped bearing if you don't have to.It won't stop any faster.

the funny thing is....some brands, sensor equipped hubs are cheaper than ones without.
