Default 9.25 axle shaft 2nd to 3rd gen?

As the title states does anyone know if the axle shafts can be interchanged beteen the 9.25 rear 04 down and 05 up? Looking for cheap solutions to get the bolt pattern I need to match my SAS swap.

Thanks.

If I remember correctly, that was an unchanged part. I believe most drivetrain parts were identical until the 302hp v8 came out. Because output really didn't change. The transmission technically never even changed.

This had me curious and after looking at them I don't think they are a direct swap. But the lited axle specs for the 2005+ and -2004 are a bag of mixed data.

Best I can tell is the 2005+ right side axle is 1/4 to 1/2 inch longer. Left side is either the same or less than 1/16 inch longer.

The 2005+ Dakota also has about 1/2 inch wider rear track per Dodge published specs. OEM usually lists track width as flange to flange so they don't have to print different specs for different wheel options.

Example from O'Reilly auto parts. Other vendors have different data too.
