Default 06 Dakota v8 motor options

2006 Dakota v8 vin N
so I threw the plastic timing chain guide and I’m pretty sure my motor is finished. I went over to the junk yard and found a 4.7 out of a Durango that can work. My question is do the 4.7 out of the 2nd generation dakotas work also? Or only Durango’s with the matching vin numbers? I saw a 2nd generation Dakota with an 8th digit N

TBH ... I not 100% on this but I know the early 4.7 had different set up as far as the throttle body and such. The block is the same dimension but exhaust ports may differ along with other components. Just like the 2005-7 4.7L differ from the 2008-10 engines with their dual spark. I would probably stick with your 4.7L (N) for ease and simplicity of wire harness. If not you could throw any small block in your truck hypothetically <cough> 5.7 Hemi <cough> but you should be able to find a 4.7L (N) for your year quite readily. Good luck.
