I'm looking at getting new tires and wheels here soon and I'm thinking of going up slightly in size either to a 265/75r16 or a 265/70r17 depending on the rim I go with. I am aware of the thread that shows tire sizes and if they will fit however my concern is with the offset on the rims I'm looking at and if that will cause major issues with an increase in tire height. https://www.carid.com/vision-wheels/...530075434.html
This rim in 16in has an offset of 0 and I'm, worried that that will rub on the fender with the upsize in tire or will rub excessively when going over large bumps or dips in the road, the alternative is a ram rebel style 17in rim in a choice of 3 color options all with an offset of +18; and my truck is stock height no level kit, I tried a 2 inch level and was not happy with how the truck rode so I took it back out. Thoughts and ideas? The truck is mineral grey. https://www.carid.com/oe-wheels/sati...015&url=731225 https://www.carid.com/oe-wheels/poli...388&url=731225 https://www.carid.com/2008-dodge-dak...398705588.html
Forget the zero offset wheels, they're only gonna cause rubbing and wear issues on your truck. The +18 offset is much better, almost the same as stock offset. Going up in tire size will cause you do do some trimming without a spacer up front, so be prepared to get a few cutting tools if you go that route. Hopefully you've found our Official tire size thread, and below is what you should know before you pick a new tire size. You can search for the many similar tire size threads and it's always the same info. And don't forget a few pictures with the new setup installed.
3G Dakota factory tire sizes -245/70/16 (29.5 x 9.6 x 16) -265/70/16 (30.6 x 10.4 x 16, No trimming with factory lift but adding wheel spacers requires slight trimming) -265/65/17 (30.6 x 10.4 x 17) -265/60/18
3G Dakota tire sizes with factory lift and slight triming -265/75/16 (31.6 x 10.4 x 16) -265/70/17 (31.6 x 10.4 x 17) -265/65/18 (31.6 x 10.4 x 18)
Stick with a 17 x 8" wheel, a 9" wide wheel will be stretching the tire to the max. Choices are limited finding a wheel that you like with a good offset for our trucks, I went through it already.
I've been using 20" Ram wheels for a while. I just installed a set of Pirelli P-Zero in a 275-50r20. If you spend most of your time on asphalt, get some good tires. Skip those off-road tires for 95% street duty.
It's comical how much grip this truck has. It will absolutely rip down twisty back roads and still pulls the trailer down a dirt or gravel road just fine.
