Default Moan/Loose Steering Wheel

06 Dodge Dakota steering issues and tail lights keep going out. I paid only 1k for my truck 6 years ago. 200k miles and not maintained well but dang! Almost 9k invested and needs either power steering pump and new rackinpinion steering, u joint and Steering gear box, possibly the tie rods again too. Having problems finding parts. I want to keep it because I need a truck and so much money invested now. Gets awesome gas mileage. Wish they would have had the ***** to recall some of this crap! I guess its why they're discontinued. Best seller for while but too many crappy issues

Had 3 different opinions. First said steering wheel can't stay tight. Need gearbox replaced. 1500$$ 2nd said rack in pinion also. 2000k plus. Now maybe couplings, bushings, tie rod bars and upper and lower ball joints, power steering pump replacement. I am even wondering if not best to bypass power steering all together. Spent 9k in 6 years and I cant afford 2 grand more. If I had tools, would start at one side and replace it all myself!. Will update!

now makes moaning sounds. Pw steering fluid is fine but I read where a ton had the whole front end replaced several times. Ive put almost 9 k into it with 260 almost miles but need my ride. Definitely getting new people steering pump, filter and such. Told steering gear box and or rackinpinion steering needs replaced. Not sure what all to order. Neighbor says he can replace. Limited funds. Any recommendations?

I have the suspicion you are being scammed. Get another reputable place to look at it.
My 2006, 2wd though, has had no issues except I had to tighten the bolts on the U joints in the steering shaft, and a few front wheel bearings. 12mm wrench I think for the U joint couplers.

If you can afford it buy OEM parts, install it yourself, if you have the time and tools. My steering was moaning and PW pressure hose was leaking. They wanted $1100 to install PW pressure and return hose. I installed the hoses, get a good 18mm flare nut wrench.
